Description: Offered for sale and just unpacked from a box that I packed away some 25-30 years ago comes this amazing covered candy dish that was manufactured by the Phoenix Glass Company. I identified this dish in the book "Phoenix and Consolidated Art Glass 1926-1980" by Jack D. Wilson (copyright 1989). There are 3 of these candy dishes pictured in his book, but none of them are in this unusual purple color. I have been buying and selling antiques for more than 35 years and I have not seen a lot of Phoenix / Consolidated glassware. I see vases here and there but I have never seen this candy dish before (except in the book photos). This is a very heavy piece and I guess you could call it cased glass - shiny white glass on the inside and frosted with flowers jutting out on the outside. There is a closed handle and the flowers cover the entire top of the lid and two large rows on the side of the candy dish. The opening of the top of the candy dish - measuring across - is 6 1/4 inches. The base stands a little more than 2 1/2 inches tall and with the lid on it's about 4 1/4 inches tall. The condition is EXCELLENT with a 1/2 inch flaw (small chip) on the underside of the outer edge of the lid - not the part that fits down into the candy dish but rather the bottom of the outer edge of the lid. It can't be seen from the top or the side but if you turn the lid over, you can feel it / see it. Luckily, this is covered when the lid is on. The purple / pinkish background color is strong and vibrant and contrasts nicely with the white flowers. I know that this is one of the harder colors and pieces to find so keep that in mind. Please see all of the photos, check my feedback, and ask any questions before making a purchase. You will be delighted with this RARE and BEAUTIFUL ART GLASS. I believe this to be from sometime between the 1920's and the 1940's. The Phoenix Glass Company was located in Pennsylvania.
