Pairpoint Glass cup plate 741, Peter Rabbit's Christmas Carol, is the seventh plate in the Thornton W Burgess Society's commemorative series of dated, limited edition holiday cup plates. The plate's design is an adaptation from various pieces of Harrison Cady artwork that illustrated the Thornton Burgess stories. This charming vintage cup plate shows Peter Rabbit with a baton leading his Christmas chorus. The holiday plate was introduced in 1995, and limited to a pressing of 1,633 plates. This cup plate was designed by Jeanne Johnson, and engraved on steel by Alvin White. Handcrafted on Cape Cod using time-honored techniques, these 3.5 inch cup plates have subtle variations that highlight the artisan's skill. Each cup plate is crafted using a mold created with a hammer and chisel, and then pressed with molten glass using an antique press. This manufacturing process results in cup plates that are similar yet possess their own distinctive characteristics. Look closely and you'll find the artisan's initials and the Pairpoint trademark within the design.
