Up for sale today is this Pennsylvania highway 33 sign. Made to the exact state standard used from 1940 to approximately 1948. State Route 33 is a major connecting north-south highway between the Lehigh Valley and the Pocono Mountains, stretching between from interstate highways 78 to 80. An original of these is very rare to find; the original keystone shaped shield seen here has entirely disappeared from service. most were replaced by the 1980s; I think the last keystone - a route 130 - vanished sometime in the early 2010s. Here is your chance to own an excellent display piece, without breaking the bank. The sign is flat printed on steel, with completely accurate layout and fonts. It weighs about 4 pounds, 6 ounces, and is the correct size for the early years: 16 1/2 by 16 inches. This is the original white 1940 style from the time that the Penna turnpike opened, and they changed all the route shields (US, state, and turnpike) to say PENNA at the top for consistency. (please see my other auctions for some other variants of the classic Pennsylvania route marker, and of course don't hesitate to inquire about a different route number!) This is a high quality, heavy steel sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close! I can of course make these signs with any route number of your choice, and not just this style, but older and newer ones, and even the classic mileage, direction, and city limit guide signs from the era.
