Description: Pelargonium tongaense is a Pelargonium from Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. It is primarily a summer grower, but will continue to grow during winter with water. The five-lobed fuzzy leaves can develop reddish tinges in strong light, and the showy flowers are a brilliant shade of scarlet. It is easy to grow in a variety of well-drained soil mixes, tolerant of both some drought and frequent water. It prefers high light, or the stems will tend to get elongated, but it can be pruned as a bonsai subject and can produce a handsome plant. Five seeds from 2024. Sow seeds in spring with night temperatures in the 50-65 F range. The soil mix should be somewhat well-drained (perlite or pumice are good additives). Each seed is actually contained within a husk with a split down the side, and for best results, remove the seed itself by gently pushing on the ends of the husk and teasing the seed out. See: https://youtu.be/R-yMELF2pWc?t=486 for a demonstration. Seeds should have high viability under the right conditions and remain viable for several years, however, since I cannot control the techniques and growing conditions used, I cannot warranty the seeds. However, I try to provide instructions to maximize your success, and hope that these plants grow well for you! I offer free shipping on additional purchases, so feel free to check out my other items.
