Paul Maxwell is a painter, sculptor, printmaker, conceptual artist and creator of functional art forms. This variety of media and methods for realizing his aesthetic sensibility reflects not only his intense creativity over an impressive number of years but his inventiveness and receptivity to progressive ideas. Maxwell's work has been widely exhibited throughout North America, Europe, Australia and Asia, and is represented in numerous art collections, public and private. While Maxwell's international reputation and exhibition schedule continue to grow within the conventional gallery system there is a surge of activity emanating from the prescience of his work on the Internet. Maxwell graduated from Principia College in 1950 with a B.A. degree in artand continued his formal education at Claremont Graduate School where he studied with Millard Sheets. While there, he was honored with one-man exhibitions of his paintings at Scripps College and at thePioneer Museum, Stockton, California — his first museum show. In 1951 Maxwell exhibited at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and was given his first solo exhibition in a commercial gallery by Felix Landau, Los Angeles. Since then, he has had numerous exhibitions in museums and galleries throughout the United States, Europe, Canada and Australia. Maxwell taught at the Houston Museum of Art (Texas) and at the University of Houston (1955-1958).
