Description: This circa 1940 post card was never mailed. The building shown was razed in the 1950's to make way for Northwestern's Technological Institute. The gymnasium was relocated further north on Evanston, Illinois' Sheridan Road. The card was published by L. L. Cook Co. of Milwaukee. The first tournament was playing second fiddle to the National Invitational Tournament. There was an East and West Regional with 4 schools in each. The winners went to Evanston for the Championship game. Oddly, the United States has 3 states beginning with O and each was represented in the final four teams. Ohio State beat Oklahoma and Oregon beat Villanova. Oregon Beat Ohio State 46 - 33 in the final game and never made another final four until 2017, last year.
