parts as-is Stanley No 18 wood block plane patents on knuckle cap body & lateral

Description: You are bidding on one AS-IS Stanley Number 18 wood block plane as pictured. There is a chip out of the throat, the throat lever is missing, and I'm not sure that all of the parts are original, so please keep reading.Included are:--- the body, which is marked with an "S" casting mark behind the throat and "PAT 8-3-97" under the adjusting lever. Shown on it are the cap screw, the adjusting lever, and the left hand thread brass adjusting nut. The throat is chipped as shown, and the adjusting lever moves a bit stiffly. Overall length of the body is about 6-5/16", and it has the HANDY grips on the side. --- the throat plate which is marked with a "B" casting mark. It fits very snugly in the body and won't slide easily, and may not be original.--- the brass front knob, which has been cleaned. The throat lever is missing, so someone added a brass washer to made up for the spacing difference.--- the lateral lever, which is marked "STANLEY" and "PAT 10-21-84 1-17-88 7-24-88 8-3-97" as shown. --- the knuckle cap, which is marked "STANLEY PAT DEC 28, 86" on the top and "B" on the underside.--- and the iron, which is marked "STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO". Width of the iron is a hair under 1-5/8", and overall length is about 4-3/16". Condition other than the issues noted above would be good. More than half of the japanning remains on the body. The steel parts have patina (color) and the iron has some light pitting. The cap has lost most of its finish on the palm grip, has some light rust on both sides, and the lower edge has been sanded down on the underside. Everything would benefit from some cleaning. The Post Office now has several prices increases during each year, raising a few things but not everything at each increase. And they now raise their rates during the Holidays, which means early October to late January. Their big increases are in January, timed to start at the end of the Holiday rates, and this year is no exception. And it's not just the postage rates, the insurance charges and the delivery signature charges have also gone up. There is now a surcharge for Priority Mail packages over 20" long, and another for Priority Mail packages over 30" long, because those longer packages won't fit in their automatic machines. And the Post Office has discontinued the Regional Flat Rate boxes, which were often less expensive for certain sizes and weights. I try to pick the best shipping option for each listing, based both on what is the least expensive and on what I think is needed to protect the item. If the value is $250 or over, eBay requires your signature at delivery for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.SALES TAX: Interstate sales tax is now the reality on all the major selling websites including eBay. If I ship to a state where eBay is required to collect sales tax, eBay will charge you the sales tax for your location. There is lots of information available from eBay that explains it in much more detail. The sales tax is completely out of my hands -- I don't have anything to do with deciding whether to charge tax, I don't have anything to do with deciding the tax rate, and I never see any of the funds that are collected, they go directly to eBay.SELLING OUTSIDE OF EBAY: Why would I risk my lengthy good standing with eBay to save you a couple of dollars?
