Description: Fine pair of solid bronze Egyptian Revival bookends sculpted by M. Carr and cast by Griffoul Foundry, Newark NJ. Circa early 1920's, possibly inspired by the discovery of King Tut's tomb in 1922. Each flanked by a pair of upright standing sarcophagus. Both signed at the foot of the left sarcophagus "M. Carr." Each also stamped on reverse bottom edge "Cast by Griffoul Foundry Newark, NJ". Very good original condition including its undisturbed original patina with minor wear to some high points. Examine the images for detailed condition. Approximate measurements: 5" H x 5 3/8" W x 2 1/2" depth at base. The pair weigh approximately 7 lbs. 6 oz.
