Description: Pair of beautiful, quality 19th century leather-working or book binding debossing/embossing tools. Both have a wooden handle and a brass wheel used for creating patterns in leather. Each has a different ornate Victorian motif as shown. These both originate from the same collection and both pieces have the initials “BLS” stamped into their wooden handles. They were likely used together and will be sold together as a result. The smaller tool measure 38.5 cm in overall length and has a 5.5 cm wide brass wheel with a repeating key, plumage, and acorn motif. The iron shank portion appears to be fashioned of forged iron, indicating this piece is quite early. This tool is clearly stamped into the side of the brass wheel with the marking: PAAS 26 HIGH HOLBORN LONDON. The larger tool measures 46.5 cm in length and has a 6.4 cm wide wheel with a repeating acorn and honey bee motif. The iron shank portion appears to be fashioned of wrought iron. There are no visible markings anywhere on this piece, apart from the initials previously mentioned on the wooden handle. Both pieces have wear consisting of scuffs and scratches on the wooden handle and on the sides of the brass wheel portions. They remain in good condition considering their age. The working surface of the brass wheel appears to be in excellent condition with no visible damage. —•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•— These are authentic, original antique pieces.
