Description: This lithographic print was produced by Chateau Mouton Rothschild to honor the "Bacchanale" spirit that inspired Picasso. It was used for the wine label for the Premier Cru Classe 1973 release of this Rothschild wine. Picasso didn't make this label for the wine. The Rothschild family had the original artwork in their collection. The original painting is now in the Musee de Mouton in France. In the print it is signed and dated by Picasso and by Mr. Rothschild. Considered by many to be one of the most collectible wine labels made, Mouton labels are hard to come by since a bottle costs a lot of money. Since 1924, Chateau Mouton Rothschild has commissioned a contemporary artist to create an original work to illustrate its label. Other artists include Chagall, Miro, Dali and Henry Moore. They asked the Picasso family if they could use this one for the 1973 label, as that was the year Picasso passed away.
