Description: NATIVE GOLD QUARTZ SPECIMEN from the MOTHER LODE Ruler is 1/4" wide (6 mm). U.S. 10 cent coin is 17 mm in diameter. Specimen weight: 7.7 Grains (Troy) - .49 Gram Size: 12X8X6.5 mm Here's a sweet, rusty piece of oxidized, white quartz from the Sierra Nevada Mtns. A nice patch of yellow gold (Au) can be seen embedded near the center of the rust zone. At the end of the orange cake, another golden growth shows. I guarantee an altogether natural specimen. Source is California, U.S.A. My prices aren't based on how much gold there is but on the fact that it's there. Those who've spent time looking for gold in the field know how hard it is to find. Here, you have embryonic gold still inside it's mother's womb. The silicate host is predominantly quartz. Residual iron also factors in. All my specimens show visible gold and are authentic nuggets or gold+matrix specimens. U.S. SHIPPING $3.50 (includes USPS tracking to all U.S. destinations) INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS S&H $14.00 FAST REFUND OFFERED (If, for any reason, you're not happy with this item). Contact me indicating you wish to return the item. As soon as it's received by me and everything's as it should be, you'll be issued a refund. I poured through old mining dumps for years looking at orange-yellow-rusty rock through a loupe, but I never found a piece with visible gold. Hydrothermal solutions carrying gold and silica crystallized into veins of gold quartz. This specimen comes from one of the many vein systems sourcing the immense placer deposits of the Sierra Nevada Mtns, the famed Mother Lode. It takes time to prove up a property. Prospecting becomes a treasure hunt with no clue what may turn up if one keeps digging. Remember the movie Holes? Prospecting's like that - lots of dirt slinging and plenty of dry holes. Even played-out, down-right lousy ground can produce a bit of decent gold, so claimholders sometimes get sucked in to a game they've no legitimate chance of winning. But, in defense of my futile exploits, any claim with minable color on it is a good claim to have. Many recorded claims contain no gold whatsoever that can be mined. Fact! Try to steer clear of them. Back in the early 1980s, when my thirst for gold led me to mining districts near Quartzsite, Arizona, it became obvious many claims were located mainly to serve as winter-long snowbird encampments. Other claims were located so they could be promoted and sold to cheechakos. My own lust for gold kept me searching for 'bona fide' claims, i.e. claims with real, minable gold on them. Finding a little gold is almost as much fun as finding a lot of the stuff. Making consistent pay, however, is high on every miner's wish list. Mining's an unpredictable trade, but it gets in your blood, this hunt for small chunks of shiny yellow metal. When you enjoy freedom from another man's collar, each day can feel like a vacation. I'm retired, yet here I sit, sharing my prospecting adventures and related-products with the outside world. Back when I swung a real pick, not a silver one, such hard work proved rewarding in a perverse sort of way. One took pride in callouses and the bone-weariness which follows a rough day of slinging dirt. In the process, I learned plenty about where gold likes to hide. Tracing leads down through meandering drywashes and creekbeds is like trying to solve a good mystery. Clues and patterns appear on the earth's skin. By remaining observant and analytical, gold's natural signposts sometimes lead you to your prey. Through years spent in the profession, you might say I found decent color i.e. with 20 oz seasons and nuggets over 2 oz. Take note this was all done either by hand or working a suction dredge by my lonesome. During that time, an important ethos was imparted. I believe it's imperative we clean up after ourselves with all that entails. I also came to believe one's word should count for something. If a claim or property owner asked for a 20% royalty and you agreed to those terms, 20% is what they should get. If you're the type who prefers claim-jumping or not remaining true to your word, you, my piratical friend, reap what you sow. Chances are, in time, you will receive your just desserts. Integrity matters. If there's one lesson about prospecting a guy who's been there might pass on, it’s "go where the gold is, not where it isn't". Lesson number two - "live an honorable life." Thanks for checking out our digs. Gold of Eldorado 8-13-17
