Description: Orthodox Byzantine Greek Lithography Icon. The Assumption of the Virgin Mary, 20 x 24.5 cm7.8*9.6 inches The Assumption of the Virgin Mary is one of the Royal Feasts of the Orthodox Church, celebrated on August 15. This feast commemorates the falling asleep and glorification through the ascension of the Mother of the Savior. The feast testifies that the Mother of God "was taken" by God into the heavenly kingdom of Christ, in the fullness of her soul and body life.About the holidayThe Orthodox feast of the Assumption is very close to what Roman Catholics call the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. According to Holy Tradition, the Mother of God died like any human being, "falling asleep", as the name of the feast indicates. She died as all men die, not "voluntarily" like her Son, but by the necessity of her mortal human nature which is inextricably bound up with the corruption of this world. The apostles were miraculously brought to this event, and they were all present, except the Holy Apostle Thomas, when the Mother of God passed from this life. Then she was buried. The Apostle Thomas arrived a few days later; wanting to see her once more, he persuaded the others to open the tomb of the Mother of God. Then the Apostles discovered that Her body was no longer in the tomb. This moment is for us the firstfruits of the general resurrection of believers, which will take place after the second coming of Christ. The holiday is called the Dormition of the Mother of God, commemorating her passing from this life, the word "Adormire" translating the Greek Koimisis, which means falling asleep to death (this is where the word cemetery comes from). The Roman Catholic Church prefers to call this event the ascension to heaven (lat. assumptio, literally "reception" [into heaven]) because, taking into account the disappearance of the body of the Mother of God from the tomb, it considers that She was raised with the body to Heaven. As in the case of the Nativity of the Holy Virgin, or in the case of the Entry into the Church, there are also no historical or biblical references for the Assumption of the Virgin Mary for this celebration. The Orthodox Church preaches that the Mother of God is without sin, but also that the Virgin Mary really needed to be saved by Christ - saved from the trials, sufferings and death of this world. She truly died and was then taken up to Heaven by her Son as the Mother of Life, and already partakes of the endless life of the Kingdom of Heaven. This life in heaven is prepared and promised to all those who "hear the word of God and keep it" (Luke 11,27-28) DeliveryWe do ship Worldwide by Registered mail With Tracking number.Shipping time takes up to 11 - 15 Business days. All additional payments such as the tax are the buyers responsibility. We ship only to the approved address that Registered in PayPal.Handling time 3 Business day.
