Description: ORIGINAL WORLD WAR TWO U.S. NAVY LETTERS FROM SAILOR WOUNDED IN ACTION. This lot includes 2 letters with envelopes & 1 postcard written by Gunners Mate First Class James Barry, a sailor serving aboard LCI 231 (Landing Craft Infantry). The first letter is dated 12/13/43 and mentions Christmas greetings & the town of St. James located on Long Island, New York. The second letter is dated 2/16/44 and mentions receiving the Purple Heart for a shrapnel wound to his right leg due to enemy action in North Africa. The Palermo postcard mentions that he was in on two invasions - Sicily & Italy. The post mark is dated 10/28 but the year is unreadable. I would suspect the year to be 1943. The letters are in overall good condition showing some age. The envelopes show wear & tear from opening. The postcard shows some brownish age toning along with a few bends & minor tears. This lot is recently out of an old estate located in St. James, New York as mentioned in the letters. ***CHECK OUT MY OTHER LISTINGS & ADD ME AS ONE OF YOUR SAVED SELLERS FOR MORE VINTAGE MILITARIA*** I am always happy to combine shipping for multiple items purchased whenever possible.
