Description: My Father worked for the Pennsylvania Rail Road (PRR), Penn Central Transportation Company and the Consolidated Rail Corporation, first as an Electrician in the Altoona, PA Locomotive Car Shops, then as an Industrial Engineer in the Engineering Office, Juniata, PA and the Locomotive and Rail Car Repair Estimating Office at the Samuel Rea Car Shops in Hollidaysburg, PA. He collected all types of railroad memorabilia during his entire 45 year railroad career. My Father obtained this 1970 World Famous Horseshoe Curve Visitors Brochure while working as a volunteer doing electrical work around the exhibit grounds. Once my father obtained this brochure, he placed it in a vanilla folder and later inserted it into a Ziploc bag for safekeeping. He would periodically display this brochure and other railroad memorabilia throughout our home in Altoona, PA. When my father died in 1999, I received all his railroad career memorabilia and brought all these items back to our smoke free family home in Manassas, VA where they were retained for over 20 years. During the relocation of my wife and I from Manassas, VA to Fort Myers, FL we significantly downsized, and our new condominium does not have the space to display or indefinitely store all my father’s railroad memorabilia. As a result, I have been selling these items on various railroad enthusiast websites and on eBay. The next item for sale on eBay is this 1970 World Famous Horseshoe Curve Visitors Brochure. The front side of this 1970 World Famous Horseshoe Curve Visitors Brochure is shown in the first attached high-resolution photograph. Since the brochure was never displayed in direct sunlight, the green, black and white colors are still extremely vibrant for being over 50 years old. The width of this brochure is 4 inches wide, and the height is approximately 9 inches high. The rear side of this 1970 World Famous Horseshoe Curve Visitors Brochure is shown in the second attached high-resolution photograph. The inside view of this 1970 World Famous Horseshoe Curve Visitors Brochure is shown folded out in the third attached high-resolution photograph. As exhibited, there are four panels containing information on the World Famous Horseshoe Curve. These areas include: “A SIGHT TO BEHOLD”; DESIGNATED FOR DESTRUCTION” and “HOW IT ALL BEGAN”. The iconic K-4 Locomotive is exhibited along the top of the middle two panels. Along the bottom of the fourth panel contains a diagram of the horseshoe curve and its surrounding area. The width of the fold out brochure is 16 inches wide and the height is approximately 9 inches high. Note: There is a slight stain on the center seam on the inside of the brochure, which must have occurred during the production of the brochure as shown folded out in the fourth attached high-resolution photograph. The outside view of this 1970 World Famous Horseshoe Curve Visitors Brochure is shown folded out in the fifth attached high-resolution photograph. The first panel concludes the history of the horseshoe curve with information on the “CURVES OF CURVES” and the photograph of the vintage PRR caboose located adjacent to the welcome center at the bottom of the exhibit area as shown folded out in the sixth attached high-resolution photograph. The second panel provides information and photographs of other interesting and exciting highlights in the “HORSESHOE CURVE COUNTRY”. The bottom of the panel exhibits the publication company: “Times Tribune Co, Altoona, PA” as shown folded out in the seventh attached high-resolution photograph. The remaining two panels, one of which is the front cover, exhibits the photograph of the horseshoe curve and the first of three reservoirs that supply water to the city of Altoona and surrounding areas within Blair County as shown folded out in the eighth attached high-resolution photograph. This 1970 World Famous Horseshoe Curve Visitors Brochure is in excellent condition as noted in the text and exhibited in the attached photographs. This item would be a great addition for any Railroad Enthusiast. Note: Photographs are an important part of my description; please review all photographs before purchasing. If my photographs and or description are lacking something of importance, please ask questions prior to purchasing. Thanks!
