The group consisted of Harry Frommermann (tenor buffo), Asparuh "Ari" Leschnikoff (first tenor), Erich A. Collin (second tenor), Roman Cycowski (baritone), Robert Biberti (bass), and Erwin Bootz (pianist). The hallmark of the Comedian Harmonists was its members' ability to blend their voices together so that the individual singers could appear and disappear back into the vocal texture. Its repertoire was wide, ranging from the folk and classical songs arranged by Frommermann to appealing and witty popular songs of the day by writers such as Peter Igelhoff, Werner R. Heymann and Paul Abraham. The group's success continued into the early 1930s, but eventually ran into trouble with the Nazi regime: three of the group members – Frommermann, Collin, and Cycowski – were either Jewish or of Jewish descent, and Bootz had married a Jewish woman. The Nazis progressively made the group's professional life more difficult, initially banning pieces by Jewish composers, and finally prohibiting them from performing in public. The group's last concert in Germany was in Hanover on March 25, 1934, after which they sailed to the United States on SS Europa and gave several concerts. The group remained largely forgotten until filmmaker Eberhard Fechner created a four-hour black-and-white television documentary, in which he interviewed the surviving members in 1975, who were scattered throughout the world. The documentary aired over two nights in German in 1977 and caused a resurgence of interest in the music of the Comedian Harmonists, with their records being released on vinyl. In 1979 Erwin Bootz and Robert Biberti received the certificate and the trophy of the Deutscher Schallplattenpreis in the category Historic Recordings/Entertainment (Wiki). Friedl Dicker-Brandeis (1898-1944) was an Austrian and Czechoslovak artist and teacher. After attending a middle-class girls' school, she learned photography and reproduction techniques, and later studied textiles at an arts and crafts school. From 1916 she studied art at the private school of Johannes Itten, with whom she then moved to the Bauhaus in Weimar. She studied and worked here until 1923.In 1926, the Singer-Dicker studio was established, which she founded with her partner, the architect Franz Singer. They designed the interiors of houses, apartments, clothes and books. In 1931, she joined the Communist Party of Austria and supported democratic Spain in the civil war. She was arrested and imprisoned by the Austrian government for her political activities. After her release, she emigrated to Prague. In 1938, she refused a visa to Palestine and moved with her husband to Hronov, where Pavel Brandeis got a job as an accountant in the textile factory of the Spiegler family. In 1942, both spouses were deported to Terezin. Here, Friedl worked as an educator in girls' and boys' homes - she taught art. Before leaving for Auschwitz, she left hundreds of children's works of art hidden in a suitcase in the attic, which ended up in the Prague Jewish Museum after the war. On October 6, 1944, she was deported to Auschwitz and murdered in gas chamber three days later (Wiki).
