Description: Prior to 1852, U.S. Military company letters and unit numbers were anything but uniform. Regular Army and Militia. They varied in size and design, were silver or white metal in color (except for Cavalry units) and almost always had lead filled backs with either attachment loops or pins. It was realized by the 1850s that the heavy weight caused them to fall or break off easily. One inch examples were generally used for cap, shakos etc., while larger ones were used on cartridge boxes, belts and cross straps. I've listed a number of these, all in nice non-dug condition. Please judge condition by the pictures and if you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me.
