Description: ORIGINAL JOSEPH BANKS AUSTRALIA FLORILEGIUM ENGRAVING - Cook - Banks - Parkinson - 1770. Plate number 128 - Planchonia Careya - specimen collected by Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander, Cape Grafton, Australia, 9 June - 10 June 1770. Drawing done by Sydney Parkinson 1770, designed for engraving by F P Nodder 1777, and then engraved on copper plate by R Blyth. The finished plates were never printed/published as the intended Florilegium, and remained so until they were discovered in the British Museum by Joe Studholme. He organised for them to be printed/ published “a la poupee” by Editions Electo, London, 1980 - 1989 ( only 100 sets plus 10 “hors commerce” intended worldwide museums/galleries/ libraries). Included also is a letter I received following my enquiry (1985) re publication, an 8 side original prospectus, and an original Subscription Form, proposed publishing timetable, subscription pricing details (eg. Parts 1 - 12 (of 34 intended parts) GBP 25,110.00), and a list of the International Subscribers as of September 1984 (35 libraries, museums, galleries around the world in advance, to this date). This beautiful coloured copper engraving is a rarely available, strictly limited printing. It is a superb original, historical botanical masterpiece, professionally framed with full archival/conservation materials and technique. Plate 46 cm x 30 cm. Frame 78.5 cm x 62 cm. A second beautiful Banks Florilegium engraving from the same Part 6 (Australian plates 113 - 135) is also available in my listings.
