Gene Speck is a contemporary American landscape painter. His romanticized paintings of Western American scenery often include structures such as indigenous Native American encampments or barn scenes at twilight, painted in earthy, dusky tones. He also regularly paints the Rocky and Teton mountains, as well as outdoor scenes from his memory of childhood. Born on December 19, 1936 in South Dakota, Speck taught himself to paint at the age of 35, after working for his father’s bakery and in the military. In 1976, he moved to Nevada to open his own ranch, which has served as a continued source of artistic inspiration. The artist currently lives and works in Nevada.
