Description: This unique piece depicts the historic construction of the Transcontinental Railroad, capturing the spirit of the American West and the technological wonders of the time. The canvas painting measures 20 inches in height and 55 inches in width, featuring a steam locomotive and workers building the railroad. The artwork is an original one-of-a-kind creation, produced in 2005 using oil painting techniques. The painting showcases the themes of Western expansion, US history, and Chinese culture, making it a perfect addition to any collection of Americana or illustration art. The item is unframed and signed by the artist. Don't miss your chance to own this remarkable piece of social and political history. In 1862, the Pacific Railroad Act chartered the Central Pacific and the Union Pacific Railroad Companies, tasking them with building a transcontinental railroad that would link the United States from east to west. Over the next seven years, the two companies would race toward each other from Sacramento, California on the one side to Omaha, Nebraska on the other, struggling against great risks before they met at Promontory, Utah, on May 10, 1869. From 1865-1869, 12,000 Chinese immigrants constructed the western section of the transcontinental railroad – one of the greatest engineering feats in American history. Their efforts, which connected the western United States to the eastern United States, laid the foundation for the extraordinary economic prosperity enjoyed by the United States in the years that followed. Many of these workers risked their lives and perished during the harsh winters and dangerous working conditions. They faced prejudice, low wages and social isolation. Despite these challenges, they courageously took a stand to organize for fairer wages and safer working conditions. Their efforts not only bridged our nation together, they advanced the cause of good, safe jobs for all workers, immigrant and native workers alike. This is a large canvas at 20" h x 55" W, the art has a couple of creased areas. I'm sure if the canvas is steamed and stretched this should come out.
