Original April 1981 Issue of Playboy Magazine

Description: This is an original April 1981 issue of Playboy Magazine (subscription edition), and it's part of a trove of magazines we retrieved from a longtime collector. He kept his collection in the basement, and the condition of individual issues ranges from Superb (the CGC equivalent of a 9 or 10) to "space filler" (a CGC 1 or 2). We are listing the issues individually, so we are able to make issue-specific notes regarding condition and content below. Gracing the cover of the April 1981 issue is model Liz Wickersham in her only appearance on cover. The sole pictorial this issue is a look at the "Girls of Kokomo" (Indiana), but the headline-grabbing picture-rich "article" for which this issue became renowned was the revealing look at Rita Jenrette, accompanied by a tell-all in her own words. Rita was the recently-divorced wife of congressman John Jenrette (D-SC), who was imprisoned following the FBI's ABSCAM sting operation. Among the salacious items she revealed in this article, perhaps the singular stand-out was that she had had sex with her husband on the Capitol steps during an all-night voting session (indeed, the Washington DC mcomedy group "The Capitol Steps" takes its name from this revelation). The sole fiction contribution this issue comes from Philip Roth. Other content includes the usual cartoons and humor, as well as an interesting article entitled "Why Do Men Rape?". The centerfold is Lorraine Michaels, and the interview is with actor Ed Asner. The condition of this issue is, in our opinion, a high 7 if not an outright 8. Virtually all the condition issues of note are simply related to a certain degree of handling, albeit at a level we would consider "light". There is also a tiny flattened dog-ear at the upper right corner of the front cover (please see our images). Aside from those, all pages are present (including the centerfold), the binding staples are secure with no tearing around them, and there are no other dog-ears, creases or folds of note. We feel this specimen would be a solid addition to any classic collection, and finding one in significantly better condition would be a difficult proposition. All our issues are shipped in protective polybag sleeves.
