Description: An original, antique, copper-engraved map of the southern part of England, part of Wales and a small part of south-east Ireland, by Rigobert Bonne and published in the Atlas Encyclopedique in Paris throughout the 18th century. The map is printed on hand-laid, untrimmed, watermarked paper and has significant detail of place names and topographical features. It also has 5 scales of distance and interestingly uses the Paris meridian rather than the Greenwich meridian (which was only accepted as the standard later). The printed area measures approximately 340mm x 230mm with generous margins beyond, blank verso. The overall condition is very good with toning confined to the margins and two pinprick sized holes to the top of the centrefold just inside the printed area (not noticeable when the map is laid down). There is a spot by the distance scales and one or two others which are outside the printed area. See photographs.
