Description: Original Analog: WAKA - Michiko Toyama Contemporary Music Of Japan in Near Mint Description The revival of Folk Music that began in the mid-20th Century ("Contemporary Folk Music") has had a profound and continuing effect on the Development and History of Recorded Music. It came at the same time (early 1950's) that the new innovation in recording technology began its transition to the 33 ⅓ RPM Vinyl "Long Play", and away from its earliest form of 78 RPM shellac. Much of the newer music forms that followed had "roots" in these poetic melodies. The emotions stirred with the tales telling of melancholy, folklore, custom, and cultural identity provide continuity to the lyrical processes of our nation's oral traditions. Stinson Records, Folkways Records and Elektra were among the standout organizations in the recording and manufacturing of these national treasures. Wikipedia has some interesting biographical information about Michiko. If you go to the Wikipedia site - copy Michiko Toyama and paste it into their search box. Michiko Toyama Waka And Other Compositions Label : Folkways Records - FW 8881 / Original 1st Edition Pressing - Please See Below for the Deadwax Matrixes Format : 10" 33⅓ RPM Analog Mono Vinyl Record, Album Cover & Original 8 Page Insert Country : United States Released : 1960 Genre : Contemporary Folk / Classical / Non-Music / World / Poetry / Opera / Stage & Screen THE VINYL : EXCELLENT + EX+ : Lightly played with minimal evidence of spindlewear, both sides of the LP retain all of their original gloss. Bright, Blue & Silver Folkways Records Labels (Please Note: The Side A & B labels have some blue color run - which likely occurred after pressing at the Folkways pressing plant - you can see this in our Photo Gallery). Evident are some light marks, including sleevewear from the original paper inner sleeve, and a few shallow hairlines. There are no deep marks, and the tracks play cleanly with no skipping or sticking. The record has been carefully handled and infrequently played. A Note About The Recording Technology: In the early 1950’s, the invention of Vinyl Records (33 1/3 RPM) was a new analog Mono technology that became more commercially popular than the existing 78 RPM shellac recordings. While these early Monos are Great Treasures, they can playback with what we modern music listeners call "background noise", and an occasional click or pop. Improved mono recording methods later pioneered by Rudy Van Gelder (and others), and then Stereo in late 1950, reduced this noise problem. Our grading evaluations examine the record condition as a result of use after it was manufactured. THE COVER : EXCELLENT + EX+ : Please see photos / textured / this cover is designed in the classic Folkways Records pattern - twin compartment. One is for the record and the other for the insert notes / well-stored with some minor scuffing / bright colors / all of the seams, including the spine, are intact / no writing, paper loss, paper tears, dirt, or stains. THE COVER ART : Designed and Ilustrated by Ronald Clyne. Included also is the Original 8 Page Insert in Japanese and English. It is in Near Mint condition (please see our Photo Gallery). We have placed the record and the cover into separate, protective plastic sleeves. Tracklist And Musicians: Please see the photos in our Gallery.
