Description: Stunning antique engraved map of the Russian Empire, drawn by Aaron Arrowsmith and printed more than 200 years ago. The map depicts Imperial Russia under Tsar Alexander I and portrays the empire's vast sweep, from the Dnieper River to the Bering Strait, south to Armenia and Tartary, including Finland, Lapland, and eastern Poland. There is great detail throughout, showing cities, isles, bodies of water, mountain ranges and coastal features, with topography drawn in relief. The image area measures 24.2 x 40 cm [9½" x 15¾"], and longitude is measured from Greenwich. The map was engraved by John Russell and published in Philadelphia by Samuel F. Bradford and Murray, Fairman & Company in the atlas to accompany Abraham Rees' Cyclopædia, or Universal Dictionary of Arts, Sciences, and Literature, 1824. Condition: The map is in excellent condition, bright, crisp, and clean, with no marks, rips, or tears. It is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions. This is an authentic antique map, in original hand color, not a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be genuine. Aaron Arrowsmith (1750–1823) was an English cartographer, engraver, and publisher who'd trained under John Cary and William Faden. He was given the title of "Hydrographer to the Prince of Wales" in 1810 and "Hydrographer to the King" in 1820. His business was later taken over by his sons and subsequently by his nephew John Arrowsmith who was a founding member of the Royal Geographical Society. Buy with confidence!
