Full set paper modelingCHECK MY STORE FOR MORE ITEMSOrder TrackingFast ShippingDESCRIPTION Manufacturer: Orel (Ukraine) Serial number: 263 Scale: 1:200 Kit description: Assembled, Kit do not contain glue Condition: New The USS Indianola, a river battleship, was built by Joseph Brown in Cinncinati, Ohio in 1862 to serve on the Mississippi and its tributaries. It entered service on January 14, 1863, and joined Rear Admiral David Porter's flotilla on January 23, 1863 in Cairo, Illinois. Indianola was soon sent down the Mississippi to block the mouth of the Red River. The first battle of Indianola took place on the night of 13-14 February 1863, when the ship managed to pass Vicksburg under fire from coastal batteries. On February 24, Indianola, anchored about 30 miles south of Vicksburg, was attacked by CSS Queenof the West and CSS Webb. The ship received significant damage and sank in the shallows. Repairs began on the captured Indianola by the southerners. To prevent the inclusion of Indianola in the enemy forces, Rear Admiral Porter sent a river barge disguised as a monitor to the sinking site of the ship. The hoax was successful. The Confederates, upon learning of the presence of an armored ship, blew up Indianola on March 4, 1863. An uncomplicated but rather interesting model. Recommended to all fleet lovers.
