Description: This listing is for an Optonica SM-3000 Integrated Amplifier and Optonica ST-3535 AM/FM Stereo Tuner in very good cosmetic and functional condition. Optonica was the brand name used by Sharp Electronics of Japan for their premium audio components in the mid/late ‘70s. (I consider the build quality to be on par with Marantz and Pioneer units of the era.) The Integrated Amplifier is rated at 35 watts per channel @ 8 Ω with ≥ 0.02% THD. It features two phono inputs (one has a variable ohm setting to best match your cartridge/stylus). It also features rear panel switchable Pre-Out/Main-In RCA jacks which allows for the pre-amp and amplifier functions to be used separately, as well as an easy option for hooking up a graphic EQ or other sound processor. The Power Supply, Amplifier and Tone Boards were recapped using quality Nichicon and Panasonic capacitors. The AM/FM Stereo Tuner features an output option to use either the standard output volume or make use of the variable volume output knob on the front of the tuner, On many vintage stereo’s the AM/FM volume was often louder than the other outputs (Phono/Tape/Aux) creating a “jump” in volume when switching between sources. This option allows you to compensate for that using the volume control on the tuner’s front panel – eliminating the need to adjust the amplifier volume every time you switch between these sources. It has dual signal strength and stereo tuning dials. It also features a Multi-Path setting – which allows the user to adjust their antenna for the best reception. The Radio Dial and Meters lamps were replaced with Emerald Green LED lamps. They have been tested/serviced and are working. Both units have simulated wood side panels which can be removed if desired. Both units have a similar footprint. Each unit approx. 17.5” W x 5.5” H x 14” D. Stacked they are approx. 11” before allowing room for ventilation (when stacking I always recommend placing tuner on the bottom to allow better ventilation for the heat that amplifiers generate in operation). Amp weighs approx. 32 pounds, Tuner weighs approx. 16.5 pounds. A copy of the Service Manuals for both units will be included. The following outline describes the testing/service work done: · All speaker connections have been tested and are working, both right and left channels. · Tuner, Aux and Tape 1 & 2 inputs and outputs were tested and function as expected. · Phono 1 and 2 inputs were tested and functions as expected. · The headphone jack was tested and is working. · The tuner gets signals in both AM and FM (with basic di-pole antenna). · The Tuner radio dial lamps have been replaced with Emerald Green LED’s. · The AM, FM and Stereo lamps is original and was working at time of testing. · The Power Supply, Amplifier and Tone Boards of the Int. Amp. were recapped. · All Switches and Potentiometers were flushed with contact cleaner, followed by treatment with the appropriate DeoxIt treatment. · Cleaning on all exterior surfaces was done to improve appearance. · The power cords were inspected and cleaned. · Any missing top cabinet or bottom plate screws were replaced. · All feet were inspected and replaced as needed. · Watts/channel was checked using a Peak and RMS Output Meter to meet/exceed model specs. · A final extended use test was performed to ensure functionality. This listing describes the item to the best of our ability. Overall – this unit is in very good condition, but like all units of this era they have some marks and other signs of wear.
