One Large, Unique Lava Rock Planter– All Natural, for Succulents and Air Plants

Also known as "scoria" or "cinder", it was hand-picked directly from the Springerville Volcanic Field, near the White Mountains of east-central Arizona. At roughly 8" wide and standing 7½" tall, this combination red & black lava rock has several large cracks and crevices running in parallel across its surface. You'll also see some holes (one of which is relatively large), along with pockmarks in a variety of shapes and sizes. Spokesmodel Woody says these features would make it an ideal planter ... perfect for small succulents, air plants, or certain varieties of epiphytics. Scoria's most recognizable feature are the pockmarks appearing all along the surface. When they were first expelled from volcanoes that were active here over a half million years ago, hot gases were captured within the molten lava and trapped as it cooled, leaving thousands of tiny "pores" within the rock itself. These pores offer natural benefits that help certain varieties of succulents to even thrive compared to other planting methods. They allow air to pass to their shallow roots, while retaining moisture as water easily drains. Their native roughness offers a place for plants to grab hold and take root, too (it even promotes greater root growth and expansion).
