Description: AFRICAN EDO BINI MASK, DEPICTING A MUSLIM CLERIC Length: 13 in. Width: 6 in. Depth: 4 in A superb mask from the Edo people, often also called the Bini, of Nigeria. The mask is painted with kaolin and indigo and carved from a light wood which exhibits considerable oxidation. There is an in-culture repair to the forehead, and down from that a stable crack running down the mask. On the back of the mask, on the left side, there is a slight part of the edge missing. The pics will show other minor wear and tear.
