[4th generation Matsuda Kazan 1936 2003 ] Real name: Nobutoshi Matsuda. Born in 1936 in Imbe, Bizen City, as the second son of the third generation Matsuda Kazan, known as a master craftsman. In 1955, upon graduating from Bizen High School's Ceramics Department, he took on the name 4th Kazan. In addition to making pottery, he served as a lecturer in the school's ceramics department for seven years starting in 1961, following in the footsteps of his mentor Zenji Urakami. As one of the authentic tea potters, he steadily inherited the traditional techniques of Bizen ware. He creates his own unique styles, such as Mokume Bizen'', which has a wine colored surface with wood grain, and crimson colored Hi sai cloth, which has a milky white surface. In 1962, won the Asahi Prize at the Contemporary Japanese Ceramic Art Exhibition. From 1963 onwards, he was continuously selected for the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition, and in 1966 he became a regular member of the Japan Crafts Association.In the same year, the piece was acquired by the Canterbury Art Museum in New Zealand. In 1982, won the Kaneshige Toyo Prize. In 1992, he presented his work to Mr. Samaranch, president of the International Olympic Committee. In 2002, he was certified as a holder of Okayama Prefecture Important Intangible Cultural Property. He passed away in 2003. Each Kenmasamine Okayama Prefecture Important Intangible Cultural Property is his brother in law. Each Mihibuki is his nephew.
