Description: Normal 0 21 false false false DA X-NONE X-NONE ARTIST: Aksel Martin Lassen is a well-listed Danish artist, whose works have been offered at auctions multiple times, and who has had works exhibited at various places – including Charlottenborg. There are also works of his on display in both the Copenhagen museum and arguably one of the finest art museums in Denmark, the State museum of art (Statens museum for kunst). Lassen was educated at the Royal art academy and at the famous Zahrtmann’s school. He went on several trips abroad, f.ex. to Italy, but it was in Denmark, that he found most of his scenes. He was especially fond of painting in Dyrehaven (The animal garden) north of Copenhagen during the autumn months and often painted in harsh weather conditions. PAINTING: Oil on canvas. The painting is an impressionistic, colorful rendering of a farmer and his herd of cows wandering about outside a farm. There’s a written inscription on the back of the frame, which says that Saltholm is the location of the scene. Saltholm is a small Danish island located east of Copenhagen. The recorded history of the island goes back to the early middle ages, where it was used as a limestone quarry. From 1521-1547, the island was inhabited by Dutch settlers, but from then onwards it was primarily used by Danish inhabitants as a place for their farm animals to graze and for quarrying limestone. Signed: Monogram “AL 1931” in the lower left corner. SIZE: With frame: 44 cm/17.3" * 34,5 cm/13.6". Without frame: 35,5 cm/14" * 26 cm/10.2". CONDITION: The painting is in great ready-to-hang condition - no holes, tears or missing paint. The frame has scratches and stains.
