Description: Silver World Cup participation medal, commemorating the 1954 games which took place in Switzerland. Medals were given to players, referees and other participants. Won by West Germany, the tournament set a number of all-time records for goal-scoring, including the highest average goals scored per game. Solid Silver medal (I'm not sure quality of silver) features a player kicking a soccer ball and is inscribed, ''Championnat du Monde / Coupe Jules Rimet en Suisse / 1954''. The reverse features a foliated design and tiny maker's mark ''PEKA''. Measures 1.5'' in diameter and weighs 31.4 grams. Light tarnishing. I bought this medal in a numismatic store in Mexico City, due to the limited number of medals available and logically it is very likely that this medal belonged to a player from the Mexican soccer team.
