The design is rather simple, with the only vignette depicting Moneta seated by an open strongbox full of coins as well as other bags and boxes of coins. The note is printed on India paper with no forms of cancellation present. PMG notes evidence of previous mounting in the corners of the note on the back. This note was NOT represented in the 1990 ABNCo Archives Sale and is the ONLY EXAMPLE KNOWN to us at present. What are Proof Banknotes? Proofs were special impressions of bank notes produced in very limited quantities to demonstrate to bank officials what their notes would look like. Some Proofs were as limited as just one solitary example, which would make them a “unique” Proof, while others may have been produced in excess of 100 or more pieces. Obviously the lower the production, the more desirable it is to a collector. They were normally printed on India paper, a thin, crisp paper that was superior for showing engraved detail. Many were then mounted to card stock for archival storage by the printing company. The signature blocks on proof were typically punch cancelled, so that it could not be transformed into a circulating note by adding signatures. Please take a look at the photos.
