NOS Vintage Toile Cotton Fabric 8'.3" Green White Chinese Garden Chinoiserie

Description: Vintage Fabric. New Old Stock. Wonderful find from wealthy Pebble Beach, CA estate.Green and white toile cotton fabric. Smooth fabric, feels like polished cotton. Mid Century production.Fabulous Chinoiserie / Ancient Chinese garden design with pagodas, parasols, rickshaws, fisherman in a boat, lovers reading in a garden, beautiful woman playing a musical instrument, weeping willows and much more.This was rolled on a cardboard tube, inside a very old cardboard tube. On the tube was a large handwritten description of the contents and taped to the tube was basically the same description which read: "Lovely Green Material Oriental Design On White Fabric". The original shipping label attached was from a company in NYC to the customer who also resided in NYC ( see photo). Because I loved the entire "time capsule" of this I saved the label and tag and will send along with the fabric. (Tube is discarded, will ship folded). Length: 100 inches. ( 8.3 feet, 2.7 yards). Width: 36 inches. There is a 1 1/2" white border on each side, the pattern is 33" wide. Design elements vary. The larger ones are 18" and 19" wide, 15" tall, with some smaller designs about 4" wide and 7" tall. Fabric feels like a polished cotton like a chintz, medium weight, has a nice body to it. Gorgeous green color with a soft white background. There is brown discoloration along the edges of the white border, some worse in spots than others, mostly at the beginning of the roll, caused most likely from 50-70 years in the cardboard tube, the tube end may have come in contact with water and the it acquired brown marks. There are some random light brown marks on the pattern, very light, more noticeable when you look at the reverse side. If I were keeping it I would soak this lovely in Biz and I think the majority of the brown would come out or lighten considerably. That said the vast majority of the pattern section looks good! There is also brown on the end of the fabric where it was folded against the tube. The measurements of the length start at the fold. Free of pulls, holes, odors. I love this fabric! Had I found this literally one week earlier I would have kept it in a heartbeat and made a Roman shade for my kitchen window with it -sadly I had just ordered a custom shade the previous week. Drat!
