Description: Output transformer by Northern Electric model NE-396H. It is probably made in Canada, as NE is Canada's subsidiary of Western Electric and essentially the same company, same manufacturing quality, specifications and materials. This measures as an audio output transformer with ~600:8/4/2 impedance. So it suits tube and transistor output stages, and can also be used to drive speakers from a 600 ohms line source. Very nice condition! There must be a massive chunck of iron inside bacuse this is heavy! Second picture shows a 9pin miniature tube box for size comparison. Tests good, with very wide frequency response and a pleasant punchy lows, present mids and really smooth highs sound. I've tested it with a 12B4A Single ended output stage and it works wonders. I was really impressed with the sounds that came out of this configuration! Other possible tubes to drive a 600 ohms primary are: 6AS7, 6AS7G, 6080, 6528, 6520, ECC230, 6N5S, 6N13S, CV2984, 6082, TE-46, 6336, 6N22P. 12B4, 12B4A, 7233 6S19P ED8000 Or as SRPP / White Cathode Follower: 5687, 6N6P, 6N30P This also works really well with discrete transistors output stages. If you are into Hi-Fi and want something to enrich your sounds in a very pleasant way, there's nothing like vintage transformers for this purpose. You can also use vintage transformers to build your own units like preamplifiers and amplifiers, or just a transformer box to run your signal through and get the benefits, if you are into HiFi DIY. Otherwise, if you are a musician, producer or studio owner, you can use vintage transformers to build Pultecs, VariMu compressors, mic preamps and many more, with lots of character, to open up the possibilities of your sound palette. This transformer is in very good shape, there's no dents in the case, no major marks, nothing, so it seems it was never dropped, bumped, hit, or anything like that... You won't see this very often.
