Description: Northern Territories of Canada Inuit original hand carved native art, soapstone sculpture, signed by artist; Moses -E9 - 43 . ( a little history the Canadian government identification issued leather disc tags for each village resident ( census ) at the time. The E - signifies native Inute people living east of the GJOA HAVEN & those with a W indicates west . These ID tags were usually worn around their necks and were used from 1941 to 1978 according to Wikipedia . Moses hand carved ID E 9-43 is etched on the bottom of his seal sculpture. Do not know if Moses was one of the early ones based on numerical ID. It looks very old to me. Please view photos. They are part of this description. There no cracks, some slight scratches, & the top of nose what looks like a scrape or just natural discoloration. Approx size; 3 1/2”Lg. 1 1/2” Wide & 2” High Approx weight 5 oz .
