Description: Northeast Woodlands Indian First Nations Lid Splint Basket Algonquian Penobscot Description and Item Information Up for sale is this small, old lidded basket with dyed splints. Please excuse any glare in the photos. This woven basket was made from multicolored, dyed ash wood splints and sweet grass. This basket measures approximately 1 15/16 inches tall and 6 1/8 inches in diameter. Unpacked, it weighs 2.1 ounces. It could be used to store sewing supplies or other small objects. This would be a nice addition to a collection of Northwest Woodlands basketry. Identification This unsigned basket is believed to be antique, but the exact age is not known. It is by someone from one of the Algonquian (Algonkian) tribes of the Northeast Woodlands, probably Penobscot (Native American or First Nations). This is from a northern California collection of primitives and antiques. Condition The basket looks very good overall, as shown. The dyed splints have some color fading; inside and on the base, the colors are more vibrant. The basket has no stains or foul odors. There are a few very small losses/flakes to the splints, but the condition is very good overall. Please review the description and photos, and ask any necessary questions prior to bidding or buying.
