He started his agency time as a U.S. Naval Officer assigned to NIS Vietnam in 1971. After separation from the U.S. Navy in 1974, the writer began his NIS civilian career in San Diego. He spent over fifteen years of his NIS/NCIS career in the San Diego Region mixed with assignments in Okinawa, Japan, Hawaii, and NIS Headquarters in Washington, D.C. He has resided in San Diego since his retirement there in 1995. He knows many retired NIS/NCIS employees, many of whom contributed their memories and stories to this work.
