Description: Nippon China TE-OH Chocolate Pot wLid Floral HandPainted White Moriage 1891-1918 Exquisite Decorative NIPPON CHOCOLATE POT, Hand Painted PINK & PURPLE FLORALS w/GREEN LEAVES, TE-OH (or JE-OH) mark from Nagoya Seito in Nagoya, Japan, circa 1891-1918 DESCRIPTION: This antique chocolate pot set has the white moriage over the skillfully hand painted delicate, pink and purple flowers. The flowers are drawn nestled in their green leaves. It has a reddish brown trim line between the florals and the base of the pot. The inside of the pot is white porcelain. The pot is scalloped and embossed with gold trim on the handle and top rim & spout. See the photos. CONDITION: The condition of this decorative set is superb. We can find no defects or damage. The wear to the gold is age appropriate on the spout, handle and on the top of the lid's handle. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. DIMENSIONS: The chocolate pot is 6 fluted with a diameter of 5" with the spout to handle measurement being 6 1/4" and a height of 9 1/4" to the top of the lid. The measurement to the tip of the spout is 7 5/8". HISTORY/MARKS: Meito China was in operation from 1908-present. In 1908, Kotero Asukai, who was a former employee of Noritake, founded the Nagoya Seito Company which operated until sold during WWII and the name changed to Narumi Seito Sho. The Meito China mark continued to be used with variations in the crown mark. In addition to the crown mark during the Nippon era, the mark TE-OH (or some interpret it as JE-OH) China for Nagoya Seito which became Nagoya Seitosho, the maker of Meito China. Since many Noritake artisans joined Asukai, the hand painted porcelain shows a marked resemblance to Noritake. After 1946, the production was usually under the Narumi or Holly China labels. It expanded to Indonesia and China in the 1990’s. The company was acquired by the Ishizuka Group in 2015. The mark on the base of this piece is Nippon China TE-OH which Joan Van Patten's ABC's of Collecting Nippon Porcelain cited as mark #7 which was used in the 1891-1918 time period.
