Description: This is a Japanese chisel made by a skilled blacksmith using traditional forging techniques with laminated steel construction. The high carbon steel provides an extremely sharp edge while the soft backing steel provides toughness and durability. This chisel features mitsura or multiple hollows carved in the back. Condition: The chisel is in very good used condition. The back has been flattened and it has been sharpened to 8000 grit on Shapton Glass stones. The handle has been refinished and the hoop set. It’s set up and ready to use. The style is Oire Nomi, otherwise known as a standard bench chisel. This style of chisel is meant for general-purpose use and is suitable for carpentry and cabinetry work. With a metal hoop to prevent splitting of the wood handle, it is meant to be hit with a genno or metal hammer.
