NICKEL PLATE RAILROAD TICKETS sign in a professionally crafted custom frame. The sign is reverse painted glass in gold on black adding to its appeal. This was owned & kept in a private railroad memorabilia collection by a person living near one of the former Nickel Plate Road (Railroad) stops. The framing on the sign was likely $150-$200+ alone and it could not look any better. It was custom made by the framing company and has a rustic wood and iron look fitting with the train depot theme. The glass covering the sign is a museum quality UV protection glass. We spoke to the original framer for the work, who stated that the sign was authentic (hence the owner spending so much to frame it) in his opinion and the owner was a very selective collector who went to great lengths to preserve his items, but of course there is no way to know the item's exact age, as we are not the original owner. The Nickel Plate Road (Railroad) has a long and historic past (1881-1964), much of which can be found in online sources. It was a name given to the New York, Chicago, St. Louis (NYC & ST.L) line serving parts of New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Missouri. Its major hubs were Buffalo, Chicago, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Toledo, Cleveland, Indianapolis. It merged with many other Midwestern railroads to form the Norfolk & Western Railway (N&W) in 1964 and N&W was part of other mergers later. I am not an expert on Railroad identifications, but it appears the Nickel Plate Road was sometimes noted as the Nickel Plate Railroad in print as some historic markers and other sites and sources note that name in place of the Nickle Plate Road. There is still a 12.5 mile "Nickel Plate Express" Themed" Train Ride in Indiana that offers excursions on the small portion of the old tracks from Noblesville to Atlanta Indiana. Its operated by the Hoosier Heritage Port Authority. Kind of a neat place, especially their Christmas themed rides in December. For this reason, if an item is ever damaged, it will be the Buyer's responsibility to file a claim with the shipping service and we can provide photos from packing to assist Buyers. The process is not difficult, but the timing of such does not allow adequate time for the item to be returned to us and then for us to proceed with a claim (chain of custody questions can arise as well on returned items due to double shipping and handling so it is just easier for Buyers). So again, as noted in listing, we do not offer returns. Of course, there is free local pick up and we can meet to assist if you are near Indianapolis or driving through. We do this often. We have discounts with FedEx, USPS & eBay on shipping which do not always show up in eBay estimates on shipping. We try to refund what we can when there is a notable difference, but we do not know until we actually process the shipping order.
