New Space Photo: Eagle Nebula from Hubble Space Telescope - 6 Sizes!

Description: victoria heilshorn studio - the best in History Title - Eagle Nebula From Hubble Space Telescope Description - These eerie, dark pillar-like structures are columns of cool interstellar hydrogen gas and dust that are also incubators for new stars. The pillars protrude from the interior wall of a dark molecular cloud like stalagmites from the floor of a cavern. They are part of the "Eagle Nebula" (also called M16 -- the 16th object in Charles Messier's 18th century catalog of "fuzzy" objects that aren't comets), a nearby star-forming region 7,000 light-years away in the constellation Serpens. Ultraviolet light is responsible for illuminating the convoluted surfaces of the columns and the ghostly streamers of gas boiling away from their surfaces, producing the dramatic visual effects that highlight the three dimensional nature of the clouds. The tallest pillar (left) is about a light-year long from base to tip. As the pillars themselves are slowly eroded away by the ultraviolet light, small globules of even denser gas buried within the pillars are uncovered. These globules have been dubbed "EGGs." EGGs is an acronym for "Evaporating Gaseous Globules," but it is also a word that describes what these objects are. Forming inside at least some of the EGGs are embryonic stars, stars that abruptly stop growing when the EGGs are uncovered and they are separated from the larger reservoir of gas from which they were drawing mass. Eventually, the stars themselves emerge from the EGGs as the EGGs themselves succumb to photoevaporation. The picture was taken on April 1, 1995 with the Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2. The color image is constructed from three separate images taken in the light of emission from different types of atoms. Red shows emission from singly-ionized sulfur atoms. Green shows emission from hydrogen. Blue shows light emitted by doubly- ionized oxygen atoms. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) How are your photographs processed? We pride ourselves on bringing you only the finest quality prints by consistently taking advantage of the ever-growing advances in photo technology. One of the ways we achieve this is with giclee, a high resolution, high-fidelity process using a performance-specialized large format printer. Giclee (pronounced zee-CLAY) utilizes inkjet technology, but far more advanced than a standard deskjet. Among other advantages, giclee employs an ulta-wide color gamut using 11 (or more) specified inks. Originally developed as a proofing system for the traditional lithograph, the superior quality and brilliance of the giclee was soon realized. Also, giclees are produced digitally, saving generations of the detail-robbing experienced with older methods such as negatives and plates. This is why giclee, dye sublimation and similar processes have become the gold standard of photographic production in the 21st century, and are employed by the majority of today's reputible photograpic and printhouse developers. How do I know your image description is accurate? We strive to make our photo descriptions as accurate as possible. Descriptions are taken directly from the U.S. Library of Congress, National Archives, or other sources as noted. In many cases, these institutions hold the original negatives and state the ascribed notes directly from the original photographer. Therefore, we use these institutions as our standard of authority on description accuracy. We are not responsible for errors and we will not participate in disputes. Should you have a dispute, please contact the sighted source directly. This listing images provide buyers the opportunity to assess the accuracy of the photo description before finalizing a purchase. As such, we don't accept returns on the basis of an allegedly inaccurate description. We encourage you to feel confident in the stated description before ordering. When can I expect my package? Items are shipped via USPS First Class mail (2-5 business days). Our items are made especially for you at the time you place your order, so please allow 1 day for processing (2 for larger orders). Your package should not be considered untimely unless it has not been received after one full week from your payment date (within the United States). Please consider weekends and holidays when anticipating your package arrival date as well. Is your transit packaging secure? Great care will be taken to ensure that your item arrives in excellent condition. Prints are shipped flat on cardboard and sealed in a water-resistant envelope or, for 11x14 prints and larger, rolled in a crush-resistant tube. Please note that we pay extra to have orders over $6.00 delivered as PACKAGES, not regular mail. This means your carrier should deliver your package to your doorstep (not bent or crammed it into your mailbox). Should you find your package damaged due to this type of handling, please inform your local postmaster. What is your return policy? We will happily exchange any defective or problematic merchandise. However, cash refunds are not allowed, as each item is made-to-order especially for you. Therefore, please be confident of purchase before placing your order. We ask that you contact us with any issues before leaving negative feedback, as we are committed to your 100% satisfaction and feel any problem can be easily resolved.
