Description: New-Old-Stock Shimano Dura-Ace AX "Dyna Drive" Pedals...Not a Complete Set and Shopwear Thank you for your interest in this item and please visit our store for other offerings. We have very reasonable shipping terms and combine orders to save money (for customers) on shipping costs. We also maintain customer friendly return/refund/exchange policies. Product Description: This offering is for a pair of new-old-stock Dura-Ace AX "Dyna Drive" clip-style pedals from the early 80's. Their simple, aerodynamic design is really special and their craftsmanship/quality is unmistakable high-end Shimano. As an example, we also do not see any rivets (or other fixed-type fasteners) present...only screws/bolts...and not many at that...so the pedals may be disassembled for servicing. They are easily the most unique pedal offering we have come across and while they are a top-end offering (consistent with their Dura-Ace branding), please note they are an incomplete pedal set. Please also note this model has very limited applications...as they were only compatible with Dura-Ace AX and 600 AX cranksets from this era...so please review the listing information that follows before considering them for your intended project. The axle/spindle specs are the most noteworthy feature that makes these pedals so unique. The diameter of the axle/spindle is 25.4 mm (or 1") with an ISO thread pattern of 24 threads per inch...and we verified...as we were able to thread an ISO spec'd locknut from a 1" threaded headset onto these pedal threads without any problems (so the axle/threading specs as listed are accurate). The other interesting feature concerning the axle/spindle is it's incredibly short...and does not extend through the length of the pedal body...which probably explains why the pedals are fairly light at about 320 grams (for the set...not including the clips or straps). Although, their light weight may also be attributed to their all aluminum alloy pedal body...with only the aforementioned axle/spindle as being made from heavier/stronger chromoly steel. One last note on the axle/spindle...catalog references indicate a cup-n-cone bearing system is built into each axle/spindle and includes a sealed mechanism...probably an older style lip-type or contact seal, as found in some of Shimano's older hubsets from the same era. As alluded to above, this pedal set is incomplete and we'll try to explain. The few boxed sets we have come across (over the years) will include toe straps and a small triangular-shaped bracket that attaches to the front of the pedal with three screws...and you can see the three holes at the front of each pedal (in the pictures) where this small bracket should attach. It's our understanding this bracket and the screws are used to attach the actual toe clip, which was sold separately. Now the straps would not appear to be much of a problem...in terms of sourcing a pair that would function with these pedals, but we believe the small bracket and the toe clips do present a problem, as we believe their availability to be very limited. Please note...we mention the toe clips as also being a difficult find, because they too are a proprietary item...and we do not see other generic toe clip offerings as being compatible with these pedals. So just to confirm, this offering does not include the aforementioned brackets, toe clips or straps...so these other parts will have to be acquired or recycled from another source. Please understand, we do not mean to dissuade customers from purchasing these pedals, as they are a top-end offering from around 40 years ago...so a wonderful find to say the least...but because of their proprietary nature (in terms of their specs), we just want to make sure each customer understands their limited applications before considering a purchase. One last note concerning condition...these pedal sets are new-old-stock, but they were loosely packed and shipped to us in shopworn retail boxes. So I do have retail boxes for each of my remaining pedal sets, but the boxes are in fairly rough shape and the pedals were loose in these boxes (so no individual packing within each box to protect the pedals during all the storage years). As a result, expect shopwear-type scuffs and scratches on the alloy pedal bodies. I will pack these pedals better when we ship them in these retail boxes to avoid any additional shopwear, but please understand these pedals have come to me with shopwear already present. Now having said this, we do not see any of the heavy "road-rash" scuffs/scratches on the underside of the pedals that would be consistent with a used offering. So we do still believe they are new-old-stock, as represented to us by the wholesaler. Please also understand some of these pedals will spin a little "stiff" given the age of the original grease...so it will probably make sense to service the pedals before use. Finally, and as noted above, the oversized spindles are steel and we are seeing trace amounts of surface rust on some of the threads. This is not a functional problem, but since I've observed the rust, I wanted to mention it. Listing Update...We have begun updating the pictures to reflect the next pedal set that will sell/ship. To this end, we are noticing some of the scuffs/scratches do not show up as well in the pictures compared to what we see in person (and please keep that in mind when considering this offering). Please also note that while we have multiple quantities listed for sale, we will repeatedly update the pictures to reflect the next offering that will sell/ship. Note to international customers regarding shipping... We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case. Note to international customers regarding customs... We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs' laws...so we have to strictly abide by them.
