Description: New old stock Pflueger Pelican 1020 spinning Reel with original box and paperwork —This Reel was made in 1954 and had many new innovations that Pflueger thought would make it a huge Success in the market at that time —first the innovations it had a specially designed clip built to hold line on the suse of the spool -spool was all Aluminum -quick acting spool nut merely turn the nut one turn counter clockwise to remove the spool and reverse to tighten the spool resulting in no parts to loose —spool always remains stationary and line is spoiled in a basket weave pattern -the Reel foot is removable and can be replaced with one screw if ever broken -drag is adjustable from the rear screw -a nylon shoe contracts around a brass drum making the drag infinitely variable so you can adjust while fighting a fish without releasing the crank —all great new innovations for that time back in the fifties —now the bad news , Yhe Reel did not sell well due to the way it looked -outdated and bulky , had no style looked like a Dinasaur with new innovations -up and coming were the New Mitchell’s-Penns -Dam Quicks -Shakespeare all with much sleeker designed Reels back than —but this Reel has its place in history and one is this condition should be preserved and displayed as a collector for any Reel collector of Pflueger items or the time when this was new and marketed as innovative and the next best built Reel of its time .
