Description: New Fluorescent Find - Secret Creek, Mayacamas Mountains, Sonoma County, California! Measures 4.5 x 3 x 2 inches or 11 x 7.5 x 5.5 cm This is an awesome large fluorescent from a unique location I discovered in northern Sonoma County in Northern California in 1993 and named Secret Creek. At that location I discovered a new kind of fluorescent mineral I've never encountered before - a large boulder with beautiful white and red fluorescence inside. This piece is a slice of that boulder. There\s a little area of pale fluorescent yellow you can see in one of the pics. So it's a 3 color Secret Creek fluorescent. It's a very hard-to-break mineral which has a few sharp edges that can cut like obsidian can. I also found other beautiful kinds of fluorescent minerals of various colors that are completely different from this. Secret Creek is just a small creek in a rural area that you'd never expect would have such a diversity of fluorescent minerals. Photographed under Short Wave UV I'm unable to identify what this mineral is. It appears to be all one mineral in daylight but it fluoresces bluish-white and red. I know that Calcite can do that but Calcite is a relatively soft mineral. This mineral is very hard, not at all like Calcite. It reminds me of some kind of Quartz. I was able to break off slices like this like slicing bread. This piece is fluorescent on both sides. Supplies of this material are limited. Each boulder slice is different. This is one of my favorite slices that's why the price must remain high.
