As a result of a battle for the regular spot it was decided that the vacant point guard position would be filled by a "two-man system" consisting of second-year Aoyama and first-year Kashiwagi. First-year Mori was also selected as a member. Then came the Kanagawa Prefecture Inter-High preliminaries. The second-seeded Shonan Daisagami won as expected and advanced to the final league. In the first match of the four-school final league Shonan Daisagami defeated Masaki Chuo while Mizuho defeated Yokohama Gakuen and the two schools finally faced off against each other. The match became a one-sided game for Mizuho due to the fierce attacks of Kyo Ryoga the "second coming of Aikawa" and Ichinose Kaname who was known as the "No. 1 point guard in Kanagawa" in middle school and Shonan University Sagami suffered a major defeat. Shonan University Sagami faced off against Yokohama Gakuen in a showdown for the last spot in the Inter-High. However the team was in disarray as everyone was too nervous and still feeling the effects of the loss to Mizuho. Meanwhile the veteran Yokohama Gakuen deployed a new tactic called Stretch 5 in which all five players shoot 3-pointers and as the match progressed through the first and second quarters they widened the gap with Shonan University Sagami. Shonan University Sagami fought back with Aoyama's defense and each member's individual skills and succeeded in turning the game around. They barely made it to the Inter-High! The team which had many issues to deal with faced the task of improving the level of each member.
