Description: Sword of Saint Paul New Bedford MA St Andrews Church Pairpoint Glass Cup Plate New Bedford Massachusetts Vintage Window Decoration Handcrafted on Cape Cod, Made in USA This lead crystal Pairpoint Glass cup plate was commissioned by St. Andrew's Church of New Bedford, MA in 1980 for the church's 75th anniversary. The design, by Brian Dyke, is very simple, and at the same time it is full of symbolism. The Pairpoint plate number is 90, and the pressing was limited to 2,000 plates. The description from my documentation reads "The design incorporates the Sword of Saint Paul, a detail from the Seal of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts, and a saltire, the Cross of Saint Andrew. The design on the border is the Seal of the Episcopal Church." Handcrafted on Cape Cod using time-honored techniques, these 3.5 inch cup plates have subtle variations that highlight the artisan's skill. Each cup plate is crafted using a mold created with a hammer and chisel, and then pressed with molten glass using an antique press. This manufacturing process results in cup plates that are similar yet possess their own distinctive characteristics. Look closely and you'll find the artisan's initials and the Pairpoint trademark within the design.
