And it also exposes, in a sense, the limitations of the 30-year+ serial story. Former couple Bobbi Morse (aka Mockingbird) and Clint Barton (known for most of his career as Hawkeye, but now going by the decidedly less campy and rather ho-hum identity of Ronin) hash out what remains of their relationship while playing at high-stakes superheroics. Writer Jim McCann does a yeoman’s job in making it approachable, understandable, and pretty fun. And David Lopez’s pencils are a good match (and, while I suspect I’m in a minority, I quite like Mockingbird’s new costume). But I can’t say confidently that people new to these characters would enjoy the book as much as entrenched fans-such as those fans who’ve been reading the squabbles and triumphs of these two since the Hawkeye four-issue limited series from 1983, through their time on the West Coast Avengers team, through Mockingbird’s apparent death, and through her recent return from alien abduction.
