They are not overloaded with decor and miniature paintings that distract attention from the actual matryoshka. Most importantly, they survived for a long time, their simplicity, naturalness, and genuine sincerity attracted people almost a century ago and continued to do it nowadays! Jump to the History of MATRYOSHKA. Matryoshka date from 1890. The story goes that Sergei Malyutin, a painter from a folk crafts workshop in the Abramtsevo estate of a famous Russian industrialist and patron of arts Savva Mamontov. They started creating the Children's Education Workshop to make and sell children's toys. The doll set was painted by Malyutin. Malyutin's doll set consisted of 8 dolls- the outermost was a mother in a traditional dress holding a red combed rooster. The inner dolls were her children, girls, and boy, and the innermost was a baby. The inspiration for the matryoshka doll is not clean. But some sources suggest that Malyutin was inspired by eastern Asian culture, for example, the Honshu doll, however, the Honshu figurine cannot be placed one inside another.Savva Mamontov's wife presented the dolls at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900, where the toy earned a bronze medal. Soon after, matryoshka dolls were being made in several places in Russia and shipped around the world.
