Description: The Navy & Army Illustrated (14" x 9.5") was published initially between 1895 and 1903 by George Newnes Ltd of London. From 1903 is continues as "The King and his Navy & Army" This booklet covers many items of the day including the Aldershot Manoeuvres, Aug 28th to Sept 11th 1896. I've included a few excerpts from throughout the 19 pages..... "The force assembled included 24 battalions of regular infantry, 16 battalions of militia infantry, 13 squadrons of cavalry, 19 batteries of artillery, of which four were Horse Artillery, two field companies, Royal Engineers with balloon, and telegraph sections and mounted detachment, a company of mounted infantry, three bearer companies, and detachments of the Army Service Corps." "Make a reconnaissance of the enemy's position, at which I shall personally be present, to enable me to formulate my further plans with a view to attacking the enemy vigorously..." "...consideration for humanity caused the "cease fire" to sound, and after a dripping conference everyone fled as fast as they could from the scene of battle." If you have any interest in the British armed forces, history of the late1800's, or just love old publications and photos of the time you are going to want to add this item to your collection.
