This is the Cairo 8th September 1936 five pounds banknote issued by the National Bank of Egypt. The banknote is green and purple in color. It depicts the image of the building housing the National Bank of Egypt in Cairo in the center of the front. It also has designs of ancient Egyptian deities in rectangular frames at the top left and right corners of the front. The back is blue and red on green and orange background. The back shows an image of a building surrounded by palm trees in the center. The note has no watermark that we could find. The front of the note indicates that the note was issued according to the decree dated 25th June 1898. This particular note has the serial number 086175 and is from the series M/34, which is displayed three times in black lettering on the front but not on the back. It is signed by Edward Cook the governor of the National Bank of Egypt at the time. The note is graded as Very Fine 20 by PMG and comes in a plastic holder so labeled. Please carefully review the scans as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: 8th September 1936. Printer: Bradbury Wilkinson & Co. London, Great Britain. Size: The banknote measures ~6 3/4" by ~3 1/2". Pick Number: P 19b and is listed in the banknote book as B117c. Condition: The banknote is graded as Very Fine 20 by PMG and comes in a plastic holder so labeled. The holder has the notation "Annotation" on the back. The note is soiled, shows some roughness along the edges, has some annotation in red and blue ink, obvious attempt to erase some of the annotations, some breaks in the paper along the folds from excessive folding, and rounded corners.
