Description: 16 photos. Original glossy. About 4" x 5". All are shown. Good condition. This is a photo album from the USS Boxer Navy Aircraft Carrier from February, 1966. The photos consist of the NASA APOLLO RECOVERY (of the Apollo AS-201 Capsule) and of a SHELLBACK CEREMONY (a long time ritual on ships when sailors cross the Equator - new sailors, who have not crossed the equator before (pollywogs) are put through a hazing of sorts into become a "real" sailor (shellback). Sailors dress up in costumes/outfits - one seen here dressed as a woman. This is an original 1966 photo lot. I see no "kodak" marks on the back. Back is plain with 2 tiny dashes on each side (not sure what that means). It would have been handed out to the sailors on the ship. I only found one reference to this online from a Navy history website and then the below: A "Bonhams" auction, which you can probably find by googling it.APOLLO PHOTO ALBUM: AS-201 RECOVERY BY U.S.S.
